It’s no secret that I love a great book. But you know what’s just as fun as reading a great book? Watching an amazing movie! Movies are perfect for when you want to kick up your feet and relax or spend time with your family or friends. 

One recent trend that I’m LOVING is seeing so many amazing middle-grade books turned into movies! It’s cool to see your favorite characters come to life on a movie screen, and experience their stories in a whole new way. (Of course, you should try to read the book BEFORE the movie, but some people will disagree!)

Artemis Fowl

I was recently inspired to start reading this series after watching the movie! (I know, I did this one a little backward.)  But man, I am loving the Artemis Fowl series. The books are un-put-down-able! The story follows a super-smart 12-year-old boy who ends up battling underground fairies while he tries to find out the story behind his father’s disappearance. There’s only one movie, but there are eight books in the series, and I plan on reading them all!

The Harry Potter Series

Harry Potter is definitely one of the most popular books to movie series for kids and adults. The story follows Harry and his friends at Hogwarts, a boarding school for wizards, as they learn to use their powers for good. While there, Harry learns the truth about the death of his parents. There are 7 books and movies in the series, so it’s perfect for starting over the summer or extended time off from school. Inkheart Book Trilogy

Are you a fan of fantasy and adventure? If so, you might really like the Inkheart series. The story follows a book lover named Meggie whose mom disappeared when she was younger. She soon finds out what really happened when a storytelling secret is revealed that changes her life forever. This series has one movie and three books – the perfect easy read or weekend movie choice!

The Maze Runner

With three books and two prequels in this series, Maze Runner is one of those stories that keep you on your toes in the best way! Maze Runner follows a group of teenagers who set out to escape a strange place called The Glade by finding their way through a complicated maze. The movies are pretty true to the book, and all three are definitely worth your time!

Holes

A kid named Stanley gets sent to a boys’ detention center, where the kids spend all day everyday building huge holes. But it turns out the warden is hiding a big secret, and Stanley and his friends start spending every minute trying to find out the truth. The book and movie will both hold your attention and have you laughing, a little worried, and sometimes on the edge of your seat.

The House With a Clock In Its Walls

A kid named Lewis moves in with his strange uncle, and quickly notices a weird clock noise inside the house. It turns out that his uncle practices magic, and is even stranger than he thinks! Lewis quickly ends up facing a world of witches, curses, magic and more. This book is the first of a 12 novel series if you need something to keep you busy for a while, and the movie is really good!

Ready Player One

Don’t you just LOVE books about the future? This story follows a kid named Wade in 2045, in a world where everyone basically lives their life through a video game. Wade is on the hunt for an Easter egg that would help him win a huge fortune, but there’s danger and twists and turns around every corner. Science fiction fans, if you haven’t read and watched this one yet, don’t miss out!

The Chronicles of Narnia

There are probably very few series more popular than this one from C.S. Lewis. These fantasy novels take place in a world called Narnia, where various kids have amazing adventures, and anything is possible. The Chronicles of Narnia is a seven-book series, and luckily, 3 out of 7 of these books have recently been turned into movies: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

A Wrinkle In Time

Speaking of classics, A Wrinkle in Time is another great story that will stand the test of time! Meg’s dad discovered a brand new planet, but then she and her brother never saw him again. With the help of some interesting strangers, they end up fighting the evil of the universe in space. This is such a fun movie with a lot of big names. It’s a science fantasy adventure great for families and kids of all ages to watch, read, and talk about together!

The Spiderwick Chronicles

Three siblings and their family movie into an old house, and weird things start happening. Everyone blames the troublemaker in their family, Jared, but it turns out there are magical creatures who are looking for a special book he found. The storyline is really creative and fun. They combined the entire series plot into one movie, but the book itself is part of a 5-part series, so it will keep you busy for a long time!
