The holidays are long over, and February is chugging right along. Not sure about you, but this is usually the time of the year when I start getting bored with winter and ready for all things spring and summer! With school breaks over until spring break and summer vacation a long way off, it gets a lot harder to find fun things to do when the weather isn’t so friendly outside. But don’t let the long winter get you down. You can easily beat the winter blues with these fun activities!

1. Host a cooking competition

Why not make the kitchen a fun place to be? Do a family pizza-making competition or a chili cookoff. Vote for the best tasting recipes, then fill your stomachs with all your delicious creations! Bonus points if there are leftovers for later.

2. Take an art class (pottery, painting, photography, etc.)

From your local library to colleges and community centers, there are endless places to take free or low-cost classes in your community. Pick one to try out solo or with a friend. You just might pick up a favorite hobby or learn something new!

3. Volunteer in your community

No matter where you live, there are most likely families in your community who are in need. Why not research local nonprofits and charities in your area? Find one or two that you’re interested in, then reach out about volunteer opportunities. It’s always great to spend time helping others, and you might even have some fun along the way!

4. Visit an animal shelter or pet store

It’s no secret that I’m a major animal lover. If you love animals too, this is the activity for you! Go visit a local animal shelter and shower some love on animals who don’t have families yet. Pet stores can also be a great way to pass the time. Plus, there’s always a chance that you might come home with a new fish, bunny, or cat!

5. Spend a day at the arcade

Grab your parents, siblings, or a few friends and a whole slew of quarters, then head to an arcade in your town! Enjoy some friendly competition, and maybe even pick up some cool prizes depending on how many tickets you get. This is a great way to beat the winter blues when the weather keeps you indoors.
